We collect as little as the product needs and no more. This page says exactly what that is, including the things we chose not to collect.

Who is responsible for your data

Distinct Learners Series is the data controller for the information described here. Our contact address is hello@distinctlearnersseries.com.

We are registered with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission and process personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act.

What we collect

If you create an account

Your email address, the display name you choose, a hashed password, the date you joined, and your reading progress — which title, which page, when you last read.

We store a hash of your password, never the password itself. Nobody at this company can read your password, including us.

If you buy a title

The title, the amount and currency, the order reference, the payment provider's transaction reference, and the timestamps. This is the accounting record.

If you contact us

Your message, the email address you sent it from, and any diagnostic detail you choose to include. We use it to answer you and to find the cause.

Basic technical data

Your IP address and browser type are recorded in security logs when you sign in or place an order. We keep these for fraud investigation and to keep the service running.

What we deliberately do not collect

The short list of things we never want

No card numbers. No security codes. No PINs. No fingerprints, device identifiers used to track you across sites, or behavioural profiles. No advertising or cross-site tracking pixels anywhere on this site. No third-party analytics on the reader or your library.

Card entry happens on Paystack's hosted page. We receive a confirmation that a payment succeeded and a transaction reference. That is the whole of it.

Cookies

We use one cookie for sign-in, and it is strictly necessary. It is marked HttpOnly so scripts cannot read it, Secure so it only travels over HTTPS, and SameSite so it is not attached to other sites' requests.

We set no advertising or analytics cookies. If we ever add an optional one, it will be off by default and you will be asked.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal data. We do not share it for marketing. We have never received a request to hand over a reader's identity and we would not simply comply with one — we would tell you first.

  • Paystack, to process and record your payment. They are bound by their own privacy terms as well as ours.
  • Cloudflare, which hosts the site and stores the book files and the database on our behalf.
  • A professional adviser or authority, where the law requires us to disclose it.

How long we keep it

  • Account details: for as long as your account is open, then deleted within 30 days of closure, except where we must keep an invoice for tax purposes.
  • Reading progress: deleted with your account, and with the title if you ask us to clear it.
  • Order and payment records: retained for as long as Nigerian tax and accounting law requires, which is typically six years. These are the only records we keep after an account closes.
  • Security logs: 90 days, unless the entry is attached to an investigation.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. Email hello@distinctlearnersseries.com and we will respond within 30 days.

If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

Children

This platform is for readers who can enter a binding contract. If you are under 18, please get a parent or guardian to agree to these terms on your behalf. We do not knowingly collect data from children, and if we discover that we have, we delete it.
