Licence & access

Buying a title gives you a licence to read it in your account. It does not give you a file. This page sets out exactly what that means — including the parts that are inconvenient for us to write down.

What your purchase gives you

When you buy a title from Distinct Learners Series™, we grant a personal, non-transferable licence to read that title in the reader on our platform.

  • Reading access on every device where you can sign in to your account, including new devices you add later.
  • Sync of your reading position across those devices.
  • Access that continues for as long as your account remains in good standing.
  • A copy of your order confirmation and receipt for your records.

What your purchase does not give you

There is no download button, no file export, no email attachment and no shareable link. This is a deliberate product decision, not a technical failure.

  • You may not resell, lend, rent or give away your access to another person.
  • You may not attempt to circumvent the reader, the watermarking or the access checks.
  • You may not scrape, mirror or systematically extract the text of any title.

What content protection can and cannot do

We are not going to overpromise

No website can guarantee that its content cannot be copied. The browser, the operating system and the screen in front of you are all controlled by you. A determined person can photograph a screen, record a screen, or inspect the page you are reading. Any product that tells you otherwise is not describing a technology — it is describing a marketing department.

What we do instead is layered, proportionate deterrence. It raises the cost of casual redistribution and gives us something to act on when a copy does surface.

  • Every book's source files are held in private storage. No public link, bucket listing or permanent download URL exists for any title.
  • Book pages are delivered one at a time by our server, only after it re-checks your session and your licence on that specific request.
  • Each page carries a visible, personalised mark derived from your masked account reference and the title, so a photographed page can be traced.
  • Unusual request volume from one account is detected and rate-limited.
  • Licences can be revoked for fraud, chargeback, refund abuse or a breach of these terms — always with a reason and always subject to this policy and applicable law.

Protections that do not get in your way

Some measures that look protective are actually hostile, and we do not use them.

  • Text selection and the context menu work normally. Blocking them stops nobody and breaks keyboard and screen-reader use.
  • We do not use invisible watermarking, because a mark you cannot see is a mark you cannot describe.
  • We do not fingerprint your device, block accessibility tools, or prevent you using a screen reader.
  • The reader works at any zoom level, honours your system's reduced-motion setting, and supports keyboard-only navigation throughout.
  • Printing the browser page is not disabled. We would rather you had a good reading experience than a locked one.

Households and devices

One account is one reader. You are welcome to sign in on a phone, a tablet and a laptop at the same time, and your progress follows you between them.

We do not permit one account to be shared across households, and we do not permit a household to buy a single licence for many readers. If you need several licences, buy several — the honest version of access control is a price that reflects how many people are reading.

When access is revoked

We revoke a licence only for a specific, stated reason: a payment that was reversed or charged back, a refund, confirmed fraud, a breach of these terms, or an account that is being closed at your request.

  • Your library will show the reason in plain language, not a code.
  • Titles are never removed silently as part of a routine inventory or catalogue change.
  • If you believe a revocation is wrong, contact us and a human will review it.

Something here unclear?

Ask before you buy. We would rather answer a question now than handle a complaint later.
